Pain
Pain is a ubiquitous, critical and prevalent health problem. It is a subjective and very complex experience without objective measurement parameters. The reduction and elimination of pain is a major task for healthcare professionals, not just to protect their patients from further injury and facilitate and/or enable painful medical procedures, but also for ethical and health economics considerations.
Nitrous oxide/oxygen mixtures are used for analgesia and for sedation in treatment or in the prevention of short term acute pain, where fast onset and offset is needed. Areas of use include, for example (but are not limited to): dentistry, obstetrics, ambulances, emergency units, cannulization, biopsies and pediatric procedures.
