 | Aerosol therapy is used to administer drugs (steroids, antibiotics and bronchodilators) directly to the lungs. Here the drugs can work most effectively against inflammation of the airways, caused by respiratory conditions such as asthma or COPD (Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). A nebulizer (aerosol) creates a mist of drug droplets, which are conveyed directly into the pulmonary alveoli (small sac-like structures at the end of the bronchioles). The mist may also be used to carry drug particles dissolved into fine powder. |
