Liquid medicinal oxygen

How does a liquid medicinal oxygen system work?

Liquid medicinal oxygen (oxygen at a temperature of approx. minus 183° Celsius) allows the storage of larger quantities of gas more readily than gaseous medicinal oxygen. One liter of liquid medicinal oxygen when evaporated equals 860 liters of gaseous medicinal oxygen. A typical stationary vessel, which holds about 30 liters of liquid, can supply a patient with more than 25,000 liters of gaseous medicinal oxygen, enough for one to two weeks of therapy. The liquid medicinal oxygen is vaporized into gas and warmed to room-temperature inside the equipment before it is delivered to the patient via plastic tubing called a cannula into the patient’s nostrils. The liquid medicinal oxygen system for homecare consists of a stationary cryogenic container and a portable unit.

If you are a patient, ask your attending physician which system would be best for you.
