In contrast to CPAP devices, which work with a constant pressure of air, the BiLevel forces air into the airways at two different levels of pressure. The pressure increases when the person inhales and decreases when exhaling. The BiLevel is used for patients who cannot use the CPAP. Using a CPAP device might be difficult for patients having a weak respiratory system.The BiLevel device registers when the patient exhale and lowers its pressure against this effort, enabling the patient to breathe out and sleep undisturbed.
